Being in Ministry is not a job or an occupation. Don’t be fooled.

Updated: Aug 26, 2023

Colossians 2:8 KJV

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

What is a true Pastor or Minister according to scripture?

When we read scripture we find many examples of people who were called a Pastor, Apostle, or teacher claiming to have had a secular job. There is a huge difference between a real Pastor and a fake Pastor.

A fake Pastor claims that being a Pastor is his occupation (job) not doing a secular job like anyone else. So Monday to Friday they claim to do ministry type of things so that they would look busy and then preach Sunday once or twice or how many times needed and yet they are sincere in this but it is not Biblical. Also in this type of ministry, they would demand you must pay tithes so that it covers their expenses. This is not New Covenant or Biblical at all.

A real Pastor knows it is not his job or occupation to be a Pastor but a calling. He works a secular job just like everyone else Monday to Friday for a Salary and then preaches Sunday.

An example of scripture teaches us that:

Luke was a Dr. Colossians 4:14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.

Matthew was a Tax Collector

Matthew 9:9-13 Amplified Bible (AMP)

As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew (Levi) sitting in the tax collector's booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk].” And Matthew got up and followed Him.

Mark was a fisherman

Mark 1:16-18 The Message (MSG)

Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I'll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I'll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn't ask questions.

The Great Apostle Paul was a tent-maker

Acts 18:1-3; 20:33-35; Philippians 4:14-16.

Did they receive salaries? No.

Did they receive support? Yes, but not all the time.

Did they receive shelter? Yes, but not all the time.

It was not a 5-star travel-pass to be in ministry.

Many times of lack, many times of hunger, beaten, jailed, shipwrecked.

The man-made-money-tithe has become the support structure for many preachers, who once started by faith but have now fallen into fixed monthly income...

In conclusion

If you claim to be an Apostle or a Pastor or are in any sort of ministry, I do hope that you do have a secular job and this way pay your bills. Let us get back to the basics of the Bible
